Conflict

28 January, 2008. | Post by Dasati

We as humans thrive on conflict. Whether it be big global conflict such as wars or minor arguments and disagreements with people we all need conflict in one form or another. Conflict is like a drug which we as a species, and as individuals are utterly addicted to. People may harp on about wanting peace and harmony in the world but that is merely fanficul illusions. Human history is littered with examples of how badly we need conflict in our lives.

Nothing unites people better than conflict, throughout history people who would under normal circumstances, be at each others throats have been able to put aside their differences in order to unite against a common enemy. So long as the lust for conflict is satiated the specifics don’t really matter. Though, of course, the days of armies slugging it out on battlefields are long gone.

It is an addiction which we will never truly be rid of. When some threat to the species, most likely of our own devising, comes along and nearly destroys us the more extravagant examples of meeting our desire for conflict, such as war will most likely fade out, due to the basic need for survival. However the smaller conflicts such as disagreements and arguments with other people will never go away, we are all individuals and as individuals we all have a unique opinion on everything, and a need to express that opinion and justify it in the face of opposition.
