Getting Away With Murder…
24 October, 2008. | Post by LouIsnt it amazing if you have money and a big name you can get away with almost anything?
Constantly you see celebrities in the news defending themselves from alcohol and drug episodes to even murder. Strangely enough they are getting away with it. If it was an everyday person like you and me that committed a crime it wouldnt be overlooked.
For example Limp Bizkit front man Fred Durst,in October 2007 Fred tried to run down two people with his vehicle, this only got him a 120 day suspended jail sentence, 20 hours of community service and a $1,500 fine. And another Lindsay Lohan, August 2007 Lindsay was charged with 7 misdemeanors for her two DUI arrests but no felony charges. Nicole Richie The ‘Simple Life’ star already had 2 DUI convictions by 2003 and was caught driving the wrong way down a Los Angeles freeway in 2007 spent just 80 minutes in jail.
Is this fair? What gives them the right to believe they are better than everyone else? or be treated with greater reserve than you or me?
These are the people that we see on the T.V and that fill concert arenas worldwide, people that are suppose to set an example. And the people young people look up to.
As “normal” people of society we pay for our mistakes and to the full extent of the law. So this brings up the question does money really talk?
Unfortunatly money means power to a certain extent of course. What annoys me most about this is that alot of the time money wins over brains. Take Paris Hilton another ‘Simple Life’ star for example, as dumb as an ox But because daddy is rich look at where she is now. She makes money by doing basically nothing, party hard and make a fool of herself and she has made X amount in one night.
Alot of teenagers leave school and think ‘i dont want to go to college or university because i want the money now’ And most regret this desicion. I have known alot of people who have done this and some have gone back into education at the age of 20+ but others have just decided that they cant be bothered as alot of training takes years, which goes to show how much money really means to quiet a few people. Me being one of the people who dropped out of a college course because i ‘needed’ more money, but now at 20 i realise that could have been one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Im going off track here i know.
The questions that is standing out in my mind is how much longer can we just forgive and forget? and Will this ever change?

Well i think in the case of celebrities the judges are more worried about what would happen to them if they came down hard on the celeb. I mean for example would you really want to be known as the judge who put Johnny Depp in prison?
