Writer’s Block!
17 November, 2008. | Post by Adam R‘Writer’s Block’ effects everybody, in one way or another. With anything we are passionate about, writers block is simply a mental block which is prohibiting your ability to carry out a certain task. Writers block, obviously, prohibits writing. I am training to be a computer programmer, some day’s go better than others, as with everything, I suffer ‘Blocks’ when my head just does not want to work right. I have just beaten a mild case of ‘Bloggers Block’, I had no topic to blog about, but then I realised, I had the topic all along!
My topic is, not having anything to blog about, or not being able to find something of interest at that particular moment. I am going to blog about Blogging, more so, blogging about struggling to pick a blogging topic. The majority of Internet Blogs have a topic, a specific Blogging Topic that they always stick to, it can be anything, anything that a person is passionate about. When we started out with Brutal Insanity, we browsed the internet seeing what sorts of topic’s people would read the most, but then we decided we were doing it all wrong, and went with the flow. As you can easily notice, we have no specific topic, we go with whatever we want, or what people suggest to us. Topics of our interest, rather than other peoples.
Why do we do this? Because we do not look to Brutal Insanity for a heavy income, it is the ventilation shaft of two young men, a place to look at the world through our eyes, and to object to our opinions. This is not a serious, take our opinions to heart, we are not fighting for people to follow us in a cult, or to fight for what we say. Although it would be amazing for the world to listen, as we do have strong opinions on certain subjects (Stupid F****** English Justice System.) but we do not mind if people simply ignore us.
Maybe you are saying to yourself, You cannot expect to ever run a successful blog when you do not take into mind people’s interests. On the contrare. We like diversity. We hope to attract people with open minds, to join us and give us their opinion, on the topic at hand, on our opinions, and on us. We do not want people with single-minded views, such as believing in god and refusing to acknowledge the possibility that it does not exist. One day we hope for Brutal Insanity to be a community of people who like to complain. It will be fun!
A lot of blog writers have used this topic before I, but they give tips on what to blog about. One of those would to be, Write a list of topics when you have your muse. Ok, this is an excellent recommendation. I do it, I have a list of about 70 things I want to blog on, but on top of that, there are many ideas floating in and out of my head each day. You cannot passionately write a blog about something when you are not in the correct frame of mind for the given situation/topic. Often it is better to at least begin to write the ‘article’ whilst fuelled with the emotions you feel about the given topic, as your true views come out. It is the same with a story, as a reader, you can tell how the author truly feels when passion is shown.
So is a list a bad idea? No, not it is not. I sometimes refer to my lists and blog on the topic, I just find it a bit more difficult to write, and ’statistical evidence’ shows those blogs are not as popular.
Saying this, I am writing this while fuelled with ideas, all floating around and I am grabbing as I finish the prior, and knowing my luck, it will prove very unpopular. But I guess we shall see!
So what else do others recommend when you suffer, what I personally call, Bloggers Block.
Interviewing People is another idea I came across, and I must say, it is an interesting idea. I would love to interview people about different topics, never sticking to a single issue, just to see how they feel about it, but who to interview? well anyone, why not just anyone? I personally care about what little old Marge from Cheltenham has to say more than what Gordon Brown has to say. Is this the same with others?
We know the opinions of our ‘leaders’ but what about the people that their decisions effect?
But let’s be honest, Whom is the biggest fool? The fool? Or the one that follows them?
Review’s is another, well given approach. Magazines, T.V Programmes, Newspapers, they all do reviews, so why shouldn’t we fall in line and do it? Maybe, just Maybe when we receive our Re-Vamp will we hold reviews, but it will never be on a set topic. And it will never become a large part of Brutal Insanity, Why? Well there is always plenty of reviews around without people needing our input, and a correct review needs access to the object being reviewed, I don’t want a load of crap lying around my house
On the other hand, there’s always Bashing a new technology or gadget. But then again, it’s the same as a review, good or bad, right?
Writing a tutorial post comes next. How to …. it can be anything, Generally blogs will only post a tutorial on something to do with their subject, such as a fishing blog may hold a ‘How to bait your hook’. What sorts of tutorials would you find on Brutal Insanity? Well. I plan to offer a How-To series, so we shall see what ends up in there. Blue Jelly anyone?
Answer Somebody’s Question. It does not necessarily have to be a question asked to you, or even on your website. It would have been something the leader of Korea asked his dog. You could even answer your own question.
You could add to a past blog, or a sort of overview about a conversation held on an interesting topic. Offer other people’’s opinions rather than your own for a change perhaps?
Blog About Hot Topics. Another way to put this would be, Fall In Line With Every Other Blog Out There That Didn’t Have A Topic. I hate the media, I personally would never write and article on an article that was wrote about some war I disagree with. Scratch that!
Write A Short Story. Go on, let the author in you take the helm for a little while!!
Well I think I’ve rambled on for long enough now, so I’ll finish with a nice little note.
Whatever it is you do decide to blog about, or to make your blog about, please listen to the one main piece of advice that I have to offer.
Don’t follow a topic, Let the topic follow you!
